We are a team of 8 who interviewed this time last year to go to Romania and help underprivileged children, and what a year it’s been. We were tasked to fundraise £9000 as a group, so we came up with fundraisers to help our cause. We held raffles; organised soup and pudding days; kept a stall at the school’s Christmas Fayre; hosted bake sale after bake sale and, our final event, hosted our curry and auction night. We had reached our target and more when we heard the news that we would not be able to visit the children due to Covid-19.

However, we still wanted the kids at the camp, Talita Kum, to get something from us, so we put all our efforts into the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal. We received donations from pupils S1-6, wrapping and organising the boxes on a tight schedule. 40 boxes were sent away from the school to Romania on Friday last week full of toiletries, clothes, toys, sweets, and stationery.
We would like to thank everyone who gave us a donation, came to our fundraisers, and helped us out. We would also like to thank Mrs Kish and Miss Bruce, the teachers who led our team through it all. Although we never ended up going to Romania, the experience we did have was something eye-opening, challenging and rewarding for all of us.

All bus pupils are being asked to fill out a google form, naming up to four pupils who regularly sit nearest to them. This is an attempt to track and trace pupils in the unlikely event of one of them testing positive. We appreciate that this system may not be fool proof but after speaking to pupils we reckon this is worth trying and it is hoped that the pupils will support us by keeping to their bus ‘bubbles’. This will be intimated to pupils at next weeks’ assemblies.
