World Book Day aims to change lives through a love of books and shared reading. WBD’s mission is to promote reading for pleasure. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. WBD want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.
Reading with your child for just ten minutes a day can transform a child’s literacy. If you want to explore WBD further, click on the link below and view the google slides in present mode. This will allow you access links to events and activities to celebrate this great day!
Why don’t you post your favourite book in the comments section on our Facebook post to inspire others? My favourite book is ‘A Little Life’ by Hanya Yanagihara and my favourite book as child was ‘A Little Love Song’ by Michelle Magorian.
Happy reading everyone from Miss Hiorns and the English Department.
