I’m sure that, like me, you were pleased to hear in the First Minister’s statement earlier this week that we will have all pupils back full time in school following the Easter holidays. This, of course, will be subject to the government being confident that the rate of virus transmission is at an acceptably low level.
Before we get to the Easter holidays, however, we need to manage a more limited return of pupils and this is quite a complex and challenging task, not just for us but for all schools. From the moment the First Minister made her announcement, the Senior Management Team at the school have been working on how we can best manage the period between the 15th of March and the end of term. At the forefront of our minds has been the need to create as safe a learning environment as possible and to ensure that time in school in those weeks is prioritised appropriately .
We now need to align our plans with the local authority Education Service who are awaiting further updates from the Scottish Government next Tuesday. At that point a letter from Nicky Grant, (Interim Executive Chief Officer, Education) will be issued and we will be in a position to share the school’s plans with all pupils, parents & carers.
