It’s only two weeks until the Christmas holidays so the perfect time to share the English Department’s Revision Advent Calendar.  There’s fourteen daily activities to help you revise for the three elements that will be assessed.  Remember, it is important to balance your revision across Critical Essay, Textual Analysis and RfUAE.  The key to success is short, focused and regular revision sessions.  Don’t forget to refer to the revision guide posted previously as well.

The school was very well represented in the Cottages.com U17’s Mactavish Cup (the North of Scotland U17’s Championship Trophy) in Beauly at the weekend.

There were five players from the IRA  involved.

Taighan Macleod toughed it out for Kingussie while Finlay Maclennan, Fraser Macpherson (fp), Thomas Mackinnon and Charlie Macrae were successful for Beauly.

Founder member and former President of the IRA Shinty club Finlay Maclennan (who scored the the fourth and final goal for Beauly) also won the Sandy MacKay Medal for Outstanding Player.

Congratulations to all of them on making it their cup final!

All N5 and Higher English pupils will sit a Critical Essay Prelim on the 20^th December.  If you would like to support your child at home with preparation for this the guide to revision linked below will be very helpful.  It will lead you through effective revision strategies applicable to all subjects and the second part has revision activities specific to English.

English Revision tips

Pupils should make sure they have secure knowledge of their text, have memorised key quotations, are confident with their notes and analysis and are strong in their understanding of how to write an introduction, PEAR paragraphs and a conclusion.
