A number of schools have requested information and advice concerning children returning from or going on school trips or holidays in Northern Italy.
For those who have returned from Northern Italy, the advice from the NHS regarding coronavirus covid-19 is that the risk to individuals is very low. If travellers to Northern Italy, outwith quarantined towns, remain well they can continue to maintain their normal activities and can attend school.
However if they develop respiratory symptoms in the next 2 weeks, they should self-isolate – telephone 111 or GP, stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.
The symptoms are:
• a cough
• a high temperature
• shortness of breath
These symptoms do not necessarily mean that you have the virus as they are very similar to other illnesses which are much more common, such as cold and flu. Further details can be found at www.nhsinform.scot
You will appreciate that the national and international situation is changing rapidly so if this advice changes we will contact you again in the coming days. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact your Area Care & Learning Manager.
