Of all the many positive things that go on in the school, students living out the school values is one of the most inspiring. All of this week S6 students who were members of the expedition to Romania in the summer have been giving presentations to each year group assembly. The expedition was run in conjunction with our partner charity Blythswood and led by our colleague Mrs Sarah Kish. The students and Mrs Kish showed a huge degree of commitment not just on the expedition but also in the long fundraising drive that preceded it. Once there it was clear from their presentation that Mrs Kish and students acted at all times with compassion and left the Romanian children with memories that will hopefully sustain them in their difficult lives.

When one considers the number of overseas experiences open to our pupils there is a real international aspect to the school. This also extends to welcoming visitors from different countries to our school. Earlier this week we were pleased to welcome a group from Augsburg, Germany and I would Like to thank the Modern Languages department and particularly Mr McArthur for the arrangements that were put in place.

A number of pupils and staff are currently struggling with illness and it says a lot about their resilience that they continue to make every effort to carry on with their work. Unfortunately this week we saw a second dislocated knee in P.E. and once again staff dealt with the injury in a highly professional way that was greatly appreciated by the pupil’s parents.

Accidents are thankfully relatively rare events. Accidents involving roads are rarer still but potentially have the most serious consequences. That was why it was really good that we were able to welcome the theatre group ‘Baldy Bane’ to the school this week. The company had a performance with another school cancelled at very short notice but our staff we able to very quickly make arrangements for a performance of ‘School Daze’ to our S1 pupils. Hopefully, following this we can be more confident that, however they travel to and from school, our pupil wills be making safe decisions about their journey.

Have a good weekend.
