Sad news this week

This has been a very sad week for the Inverness Royal Academy school community. On Friday 28th of November we lost Dr Owen Morris and then on Tuesday 2nd December we lost Robin Fyfe, both to cancer.
Dr Owen Morris sadly passed away after a short battle with cancer. Owen was working with us in Inverness Royal Academy up until the October holidays, and it was only in October he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Owen was a member of staff in the ASN department for over two decades. He has always been a highly valued teacher who was motivated to help and support all our young people. He stepped up as Acting Head of Department after the departure of our PT and showed a care and commitment to all the pupils. With his calm demeanour he has been a constant and consistent source of help for many students and staff in the school. Owen is survived by his wife Kate and six children of whom he was immensely proud of. He has left a legacy both in the local community with his work with the Junction Church and Inverness Royal Academy.
A memorial service will be held on Friday 19th at Culduthel Christian Centre.
Robin was at the school as Depute Rector from 2002 until his retirement in 2023. During his 21 years at the school, he also served two spells as Acting Rector, one of which was through the outbreak of the COVID pandemic in 2020. After he retired at Easter in 2023, he returned to the school as an invigilator and as a supply teacher and he continued to support the school as a supply teacher right up until his diagnosis in April this year. Robin was a very charismatic person who was fully committed to helping the young people of Inverness Royal Academy and as such he was very well liked and thought of by staff, pupils and parents. Robin is survived by his wife Julia, daughter Lucy and stepdaughter Ellie and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time. Robin’s funeral will take place at the Crematorium on Friday the 19th of December at 2:00pm.
Our thoughts are with their families during this difficult time.
