Last week, our S2 pupils had the opportunity to explore food, farming, nutrition and the many different careers connected to the food industry - and what a day it was!
Four kitchens, four different experiences:
Our pupils rotated around four kitchens, learning from some fantastic local chefs and food professionals:
The team at Highland Council Catering
Finlay from The Wild Highland Kitchen
Nina from Delishness
Sylvester from GP Osteria

Outdoors, they discovered where our food comes from, with farmers and food producers bringing along farm machinery and giving pupils the chance to learn about beef and sheep farming, crops, pollinators - and even meet a cow and see the bees!
There was also a display celebrating our very own Core garden, showcasing what our pupils have been growing at school. And in a brilliant full-circle moment, the potatoes used by The Highland Council in their cooking session were actually grown right here in our school garden! ![]()
Back in the theatre, there was plenty more to explore, including:
Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Trust – looking at the importance of nutrition and healthy eating
Dan Jenkins from NHS Highland – exploring the connection between food and mood
Caroline from Quality Meat Scotland – learning about food labelling, provenance and where our food comes from
Snack-tember – helping pupils think about the choices they make when it comes to snacks
A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time and shared their knowledge with our pupils. Days like this give young people the chance to experience the world of food and farming in a really practical and memorable way - and to discover just how many different careers sit behind what we eat every day.
A particularly big thank you to Fran from RHET Highland for organising such a fantastic event alongside Miss Macdonald from Home Economics, with support from Gillian Denovan from DYW.
