This year, we’re arranging a Christmas Dress Drive collecting “gently used” wear for our Christmas dances. We are seeking donations of dresses, shirts, suits, jumpsuits and formal attire for the festive season in any size.
We would like to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the dances and the drive offers a chance for the school community to give back and spread holiday cheer. By reusing and repurposing clothing, this drive helps reduce waste and gives new life to gently worn items whilst also promoting a sustainable, cost effective and eco-friendly approach to holiday festive attire.
Donations can be dropped off at designated locations during the collection period and then available items will be shared by a senior group of pupils via social media and a collection point in school. Items can be altered if needed to ensure a perfect fit kindly provided by our own home economics department.
We hope to help spread holiday joy through this meaningful initiative.
S5/6 PARENTS EVENING - As we have the senior parents evening approaching, please consider any items you may wish to donate and take them along with you. A donation box will be available in the main atrium as you sign in to parents evening.
Well done to the S1 Boys football team who progressed to the next round of the North Cup with a 7-1 win over Tain RA. Goals from Finlay Craig x2, Niall MacBean x2 and Ryan Matheson x3
UHI are having their last open day of 2024 and have a range of courses starting in January 2025, perfect for students thinking about leaving at Christmas.
For the past year parents have been talking about how they support their children at home when it comes to learning about friendships and relationships, growing up and puberty, being safe and topics like consent. Parents have also talked about wanting their teenage children to understand about relationships and sexual health. We have also taken time to talk about what parents know and think about nursery and school-based learning. In nursery or school this will be called Relationship, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) learning. We have talked about what parents want to see in terms of how school and home should work together to support learning.
We are now launching our report and celebrating the fact that parents are their child’s most important educator on all these matters. Find the Chat report at www.thechat.scot As well as the full report there are some graphic representations of what we have learned, and a narrated short PowerPoint that will help share news of the Chat findings.
We are inviting interested parents and colleagues to come to a lunchtime webinar to hear more about the project and the findings. This is on Thursday 21st November 12.30 -1.15pm. Book here
theChat was a Scotland-wide project, facilitated by independent agency TASC (Scotland) on behalf of NHS Borders, NHS Grampian, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Tayside and NHS Eileanan Siar (Western Isles) and Glasgow City Council.

Dr Colin Morrison
Pupils from Inverness Royal Academy took part in Mock COP29 yesterday, organised by Open University and Highland One World held at Highland Council HQ. Schools across Highland were invited to attend this event, and each school was given an actor profile that was either a country, charity, or stakeholder. We represented the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia at the Mock COP29 and had a day full of negotiations on issues like Net-Zero targets, funds for tackling the Climate Emergency and protecting nature. We made connections and deals with other representatives throughout the day, culminating in voting for resolutions on these issues. Towards the end China declared Nuclear War and walked out of the negotiations in protest to the ‘hostile’ environment at Mock COP29! A lasting alliance was also formed between us, Ethiopia and The Nordic Council represented by Culloden Academy. A fun day was had by all involved.
Congratulations to our S1/2 and S3/4 girls football teams who played in the SPAR Cup yesterday and qualified for the next round. The S1/2 team played 11 games scoring 35 goals and the S3/4 team played 10 games scoring 27 goals! (Apologies we have no photo of the S3/4 team). AMAZING job girls. We are all very proud. A special thanks to Mrs Rennie for coaching the senior team.
We would like to wish our S4s the best of luck with their prelims which start tomorrow. Please see attached a presentation that all S4s have seen about what they need to do during the exams.
Following on from the two minute silence today, our School Captains (Ellie Gorin and Charlotte Rose McNeish) and Vice School Captains (Daniel Cowan and Kirsten Carmichael) along with Mr Piper, laid a wreath at Midmills Building (the old Inverness Royal Academy building) to remember former pupils and staff who gave their lives in two world wars and other conflicts around the world.
'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.'
Inverness Royal Academy observed the 2 minute silence this morning. Beth Hutchison played The Last Post in the atrium and Maili MacLennan played Flowers of the Forest on the pipes.
Mr Engstrand along with School Captains, Charlotte Rose McNeish & Daniel Cowan represented Inverness Royal Academy today at the Inverness Remembrance Parade. Charlotte & Daniel are pictured here with recently retired member of staff, Dr Michael Gregson.
