  • SpΓ²rs GΓ idhlig Camping Adventure

    Published 30/06/25

Chaidh cuid de na balaich bho ÀS2 Gàidhlig air turas campachaidh Diardaoin agus Dihaoine le Spòrs Gàidhlig. Dh’ionnsaich iad sgìlean ùra agus fhuair iad cothrom an cuid Gàidhlig a’ cleachdadh ann an suidheachadh diofraichte bhon àbhaist – rud a tha deatamach nuair a tha thu ag amas air fileantachd. Chòrd am bothan agus na teantaichean riutha gu mòr! Tha sinn gu math taingeil do Chomunn na Gàidhlig airson ar cuideachadh le maoineachadh. Abair cothrom!

A group of pupils from S2 Gàidhlig headed out on a walking and camping adventure on Thursday with Spòrs Gàidhlig. We managed to avoid the worst of the weather and made the most of camping near a very substantial bothy. The boys learnt new skills and were able to use Gaelic in a different setting from the classroom, something that is recognised as essential for reaching true fluency in any language. Thanks for Comunn na Gàidhlig for their help with funding this trip.

See our Gaelic department blog for some more photos of the adventure.

  • Advanced Higher Art Trip

    Published 27/06/25

What a wonderful morning our Advanced Higher Art pupils had at Wasps Studios / Inverness Creative Academy with Craig Ellis and Ray Downie from Gray's School of Art Aberdeen. After looking through examples of work from 1st year Art School students, some of our senior artists and designers took part in a Screen Printing workshop.

Loads of creativity, problem solving skills and technical ability demonstrated as they created their own cut paper stencils and produced a unique print!

An intense and highly creative morning which will give our artists and designers a lot to reflect on and refer back to as they continue to develop their portfolio work πŸ‘Œ

We are so grateful for the hospitality and generosity of Gray’s School of Art and the unique opportunities they have provided for our students once again! We were also delighted to be joined by talented artists and designers from Charleston Academy πŸ”₯

  • Mock Careers Fair!

    Published 26/06/25

πŸŽ‰ A huge well done to our group of S2 pupils who organised their very own mock careers fair! With support from the English Department, DYW (Developing the Young Workforce), Art, and the Home Economics Department, they pulled off a fantastic event full of creativity.

Pupils researched careers that interested them, created displays and designed interactive tasks and activities to engage visitors at their stands. Local employers were invited in to offer the pupils support, and all S2 and S3 pupils had the chance to visit the fair.

Our talented photography team acted as roving paparazzi πŸ“Έ A special shout-out to the Practical Cookery class for preparing delicious treats to serve our guests. 🍰

Thanks to everyone who took part and helped make this such a successful and inspiring event!

πŸ“š πŸ—οΈ Our Higher Business class had a fantastic opportunity to hear from Mia from Morrison Construction, who delivered an inspiring and informative talk on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Mia shared real-life insights into what CSR looks like in practise, how it impacts communities and businesses, and what her role involves day-to-day. It was a brilliant way for pupils to connect classroom learning with real-world experience.

A big thank you to our Developing the Young Workforce Inverness & Central Highland School Coordinator, Gillian Denovan for organising this visit.

  • Iceland Study Tour - Last Day!

    Published 20/06/25

    πŸŒ‹ Day 5 – Earthquakes, Lava & Vikings!

Our final full day in Iceland was packed with geothermal wonders, underground adventures, and a touch of Viking flair.

We started in the steamy town of Hveragerði, where we visited the Earthquake House and experienced what a real earthquake feels like on the simulator.

Next, we visited a geothermal tomato greenhouse and got to try some tomato flavoured ice cream! πŸ…Then we relaxed at the Secret Lagoon, one of Iceland’s oldest swimming hot springs – the perfect place to soak up some geothermal goodness. ♨️

From there, we descended into the Lava Tunnel, an incredible ancient lava tube formed thousands of years ago. At one point the guide turned off the lights, plunging us into total darkness.

To finish the day, we returned to Reykjavík for some well-earned free time exploring the capital’s sights, shops, and souvenirs.

We spent our final night in style – at a Viking-themed hotel complete with longhouses and Viking style banquet.

Check out our photos from the tour in the photo gallery section πŸ“·

  • Iceland Study Tour - Day 4

    Published 19/06/25

    Day 4 – Puffins, Volcanoes & Belugas! πŸŒ‹πŸ³πŸ§

Today’s adventures took us by (electric!) ferry to the beautiful Vestmannaeyjar Islands, where we explored the fascinating island of Heimaey – famous for the powerful 1973 volcanic eruption.

We began with a walking tour of the town, then visited the moving Eldheimar Museum, built over houses buried in ash and lava flows. We learned about traditional Icelandic life and the resilience of a community that refused to give up and battled the lava flows.

Next, we visited the Sea Life Sanctuary where we met some of the island’s marine life – and had the unforgettable experience of seeing Little Grey and Little White, two Beluga Whales rescued from bad conditions in a Seaworld in Asia. Only this week they were moved to the centre for their health check. You can watch the documentary here!

To end the day, we travelled to the dramatic cliffs of Heimaey, where we watched hundreds of puffins nesting and diving.

  • Iceland Study Tour - Day 3

    Published 18/06/25

    πŸŒ‹ Day 3 – South Coast Adventure!

Our Iceland Geography Study Tour continued today with an action-packed journey along the stunning south coast.

We kicked things off at the Lava Centre, exploring the explosive volcanic forces that shape this incredible island.

Next stop: Seljalandsfoss – waterproofs on! We braved the spray and walked behind the falls, seeing differential erosion in action.

Then came a true highlight – glacier hiking on Sólheimajökull! With expert guides, we trekked across ice, crevasses, learning all about glaciation and climate change first-hand.

Afterwards, we explored the colourful town of Vík, before heading to the dramatic Reynisfjara black sand beach, famous for its basalt columns, sneaker waves and eerie legends.

We rounded off the day with a quick photo stop at the mighty Skógafoss waterfall.
