What a cracker of a concert! Well done to all of those who performed in this year’s Inverness Royal Academy Christmas Concert. The night was a huge success, and all the young performers should be extremely proud of what they achieved. Our Youth Activism group decided to see how they could help with food insecurity in our community. This December they gave some assemblies, arranged a food drive, and today visited Inverness Foodstuff at Ness Bank Church to drop off the donations.

It’s been a busy day for Developing the Young Workforce and Inverness Royal Academy with two employer speakers coming along to meet pupils. Allan Macleod from BBC Alba spoke to the S2 Gaelic class about where Gaelic can take you and Katy and Chris from Robertson North Construction spoke to pupils interested in starting apprenticeships or careers in construction

Senior Geography & Modern Studies pupils had the opportunity to hear from Josh Oxby on Wednesday. Josh is a Scottish climate & energy government policy advisor. He is an acclaimed UN-SDG youth energy ambassador & negotiator for Europe and North America; having recently returned from Cop 28. Josh shared his career journey from being a child in the Highlands to advising government ministers and founding The Divergent Thinktank.

It's even more exciting that, on the day he visited us, a groundbreaking deal was agreed at COP 28 to move away from fossil fuels!

Our Right of the Month examines Article 14. Now that we are in the throes of the festive season , we must remember and respect all religions and beliefs that are featured in our school. It’s fantastic to have a school of such mixed faiths, beliefs and cultures that can all come together at different points across the school year.
Article 14 of the UNCRC says that children and young people are free to be of any or no religion. Their parents can help them make decisions around religion, but:
• a parent can’t force a child or young person to adopt a religion, and
• a parent can’t force a child or young person to stop following a religion.
No religious discrimination
Children and young people shouldn’t be discriminated against because of their religion. They should be treated the same as everyone else, no matter what they believe.
Freedom of thought
Article 14 also covers the right to freedom of thought. This is the right of a person to have their own ideas, thoughts, opinions and beliefs― and for nobody to be able to stop them from holding them. A person has the right to keep their beliefs private, and shouldn’t be forced to reveal them.

In 2016, Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent spent ten incredible weeks exploring Arunachal Pradesh. Cordoned off from the outside world from 1873 until the late 1990s, today the harshness of its terrain, a sensitive political situation, and the need for restrictive permits still make it a little-visited region. Travelling 2,000 miles by motorbike, foot and boat, she went from leech-infested jungles to the gompa-clad peaks of Tawang, followed explorer F M Bailey’s footsteps to the border with Tibet, and trekked deep into the sacred Buddhist kingdom of Pemako. She recounts stories of a journey which was cold, wet, hot, mind-blowingly beautiful, and constantly surprising.
